The most important part of your wedding day is your ceremony! All of the planning and stress leads up to one short ceremony where you officially get married. Picture this, you’re up at the altar, looking into the eyes of your almost husband, and you see Aunt Suzie with her iPhone walking down the aisle snapping pictures, or Uncle Bob holding up his iPad to record your vows. Talk about a mood-killer! The best way to prevent this from happening is to have an unplugged ceremony! This is something that has been more and more popular and I’ll say that I am a fan! In this post, I am going to talk about the four reasons that I think it is important to have an unplugged ceremony at your wedding!
No phones in photos
Let me say it louder for the people in the back- NO PHONES IN PHOTOS! As a photographer, this is one of the most difficult things to deal with. The bride and groom are walking down the aisle, and celebrating with a kiss and it’s perfect - except for someone holding their phone out in the aisle to take a picture. In this situation, we either have to not deliver the photo, work extra to photoshop it out, or you get a picture with a phone in it. Just what you wanted in your wedding photos, right?
Create an atmosphere
We believe that marriage is a commitment, and so although wedding days are so fun, they are also sacred. The whole reason you’re planning this beautiful ceremony and wedding is to celebrate this new season of life you’re entering into, so why shouldn’t the day be focused on that, especially during the moment that you become husband and wife!
People are present
Having guests physically present isn’t the only important thing during your wedding- you want your guests to be 100% mentally present as well! This is a day that you’ve invited these special people in your life to join and celebrate with you, so that means you want them to really be there with you! Why shouldn’t your wedding be focused on what matters most, and not on social media?
You picked out and paid your photographer!
You picked a photographer to be at your wedding solely for the purpose of taking pictures! That’s what we’re there for. We love when our couples trust us completely to get the best pictures so that their guests, family, and friends can be present!
So, all in all, I am a HUGE fan of unplugged ceremonies. Zach and I chose to do this when we got married three years ago, and we loved it! As a photographer, it’s my goal to help my clients create and preserve a wedding day that they’ll love forever. If you are ever in doubt about whether or not you want to do this- my recommendation is ABSOLUTELY!
